Soooo, why another blog?

Soooo, why another blog? What does this small town pet doctor have to contribute to the vastness of the ‘information superhighway’? I guess that’s for you to decide. And you’ll either bookmark this page as a place to visit and contribute, or disappear into cyberspace never to waste another kilosecond of download time on my corner of the universe.

I’ve always believed people should direct their energy toward areas where they have a heartfelt interest and grounding. I love the creatures of this world and I am grounded in the science of veterinary medicine. In recent times I’ve come to realize that my legacy may be best secured in a role as a servant or custodian to those who have no voice. In a world where more than a million species worldwide could be driven to extinction by 2050, their welfare has clearly gone beyond their own control. After viewing the ‘Inconvenient Truth’, Al Gore’s documentary on climate change and global warming, a youngster in the audience was so consumed by the content that she concluded ... “Daddy, we have to save the polar bears!” My heart went out to that little girl ... a kindred spirit!

My lifetime has been spent in tight communion with the creatures of this world. As a young child I rescued flies from certain death as they flew about the kitchen and returned from adventures in a nearby forest with great treasures from nature. Not all appreciated by my older sister, I might add. In my teens, I sought to understand the feelings of more domesticated species and witnessed the joys of creation through the birth of cattle, kittens and puppies. While not much later, experiencing the loss of my first four -legged companion, Bernie, with whom I shared many confidences and forest adventures.

I have learned much and continue to learn from the creatures who share the bounty of this earth. It is now my turn, the humble custodian, to give back. Give to you, who is willing to listen, lessons from the creatures that surround us and to them, a hope for the future. Please take a moment today and every day to silently meditate with compassion for all those living creatures who cohabit our planet.
